What I should have been doing...

So....I got off work early today and of course what I should have done is worked on my portfolio that is due on Monday that is worth 50% of my grade in the summer class I'm taking. I of course did sit down and write out what I'm going to type for the first section but then came up with anything else to do but that. One of the things I do is read The Prudent Patron. She is so fun to read because she gives me everything I need to get a great deal on something. Well I was reading this and found that I could get a 64 count tub of wipes for .71 cents at Walgreens today only! That got my attention. Not because I have five kids and need to stock up ( I wish that were the case ) mostly because that is an excellent price and I have some friends that are having babies soon, one of which is having her shower next week so I thought it would be good to add to the baby gift basket I'm preparing for them.

So I went to walgreens and bought
4 pkgs of huggies wipes
2 bottles of water
1 small bottle of visine
1 24pk of crayola crayons
3 pks 10 count of #2 pencils
all for .....
drum roll.....
$8.00 even PLUS I got back $3.oo in register rewards to use on anything I want at walgreens so minus that $5.00 for everything! Are you kidding? I was ecstatic. Also the friendly cashier gave me a coupon back for a free redbox =)

Alright now back to work on this portfolio but I wanted to share my amazing shopping trip today.

First walgreens couponing experience

So I've started the New Year trying to use more coupons and stretch our budget. I went thru several different blogs, looked at the ad, printed off lots of online coupons, and even bought a subscription to all you magazine to get me started. I'm just really excited about doing this.
So this weekend I found the ad online for walgreens and looked thru it and found some pretty good deals with the walgreens rewards. Today I bought $23.79 worth of product and saved $67.32! I was pretty excited! It was a little more than I had planned on spending but I'm getting a $10 mail in rebate from Johnson and Johnson and also still have a $2 walgreens reward to use. The picture above is a list of everything I bought at walgreens this evening. Now i'm excited to see what new deals await for me next week.
I'm still not so great with the grocery store. I spent $74 dollars today total and saved only $7.49. I'm not finding very many blogs for store up north like Hy-vee, bag and save, no frills, or baker's. If anyone knows of some let me know! :)
Happy shopping this week everyone!
